18.12.2023р. – 23.12.2023 р. – within the framework of the project “Professional Development and Exchange for Educators of Preservice English Language Teachers” supported by the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, Natalia Tatsenko underwent qualification enhancement in the course “Discovering the Best Educational Systems from Europe and the World” in Barcelona, Spain (funding amount: $1200).
13.10. 2023 – 22.10.2023 – Natalia Rudenko and Nina Malovana participated in an academic mobility program for professional development at the Danube Academy in Ulm, Germany.
2.07.2023 – 7.07.2023 – Nataliia Tatsenko, Head of the Department of Foreign Languages and Linguodidactics, and Associate Professor Iryna Liashenko participated in the TESOL Ukraine Institute on "Teaching in a Time of Crisis: Innovative Tools, Strategies, and Approaches to Improving English Learning for Ukrainians." The institute took place in Krakow and was supported by the Regional English Language Office at the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine through the English Language Alumni Program.

Summer 2022 – May 2023 - Associate Professor of the Department of Foreign Languages and Linguodidactics Iryna Luashenko completed a course of study from the he Regional English Language Office at the U.S. Embassy Kyiv on Online Institute on Teaching Creative Writing for tertiary teachers of English from Ukraine. The online course aimed to develop the teaching of writing skills and creative writing for university students and beyond.
May 2023 – Associate Professor of the Department of Foreign Languages and Linguodidactics Iryna Luashenko completed the OPEN Community Lead Training Course instructed by the OPEN Program. This program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The objective of this course was to prepare participants to serve as Community Leads on the OPEN Community of Practice (CoP) online platform.
January – February 2023 – Associate Professor of the Department of Foreign Languages and Linguodidactics Iryna Luashenko gave a presentation on the academic writing assessment at the final meeting of the participants of the Language Assessment Literacy course, which was held as part of the Electronic Village Online (EVO) TESOL project from January 7 to February 12, 2023. The course aimed to improve participants' assessment literacy through exposure to and discussion of key concepts in language assessment, as well as the creation of assessment tasks as an end result.

An American professor will work at the Faculty of Foreign Philology and Social Communications
Professor Stuart Carroll of the College of New Jersey will work at the Department of Foreign Languages of the Faculty of Foreign Philology and Social Communications at Sumy State University. Stuart Carroll, a highly qualified teacher with an advanced scientific degree (PhD, Associate Professor) with substantial academic experience in practical teaching, methodological training of teachers and in the scientific field of educational issues on English language teaching methods will teach English to undergraduate students at Sumy State University within the program Virtual English Language Educator starting in October 2022.The submission of application from Sumy State University, particularly from the Foreign Languages Department of the Faculty of Foreign Philology and Social Communications, to receive a virtual teacher within the framework of the program from the Public Relations Department of the US Embassy was successfully considered by the Head Office in Washington, having opened a new niche for the practice of Sumy State University in the implementation vector towards internationalization, academic mobility and integration into the world academic community.Our students will receive an invaluable authentic learning experience not only from a native speaker, but also from an experienced teacher who has spent significant time teaching undergraduate and graduate programs in the United States, Venezuela, Israel, Bolivia, Kuwait, Taiwan, Egypt, Thailand, and Spain, teaching core disciplines for future teachers. Classes will be held online for four groups of students this semester. In addition, Stuart Carroll's duties will include methodological seminars for teachers of the Foreign Languages Department, where he will share their experience of the latest methods of teaching grammar and syntax, the use of visual aids in teaching, teaching reading, culture and other areas in teaching foreign languages. Stuart Carroll has extensive scholarly experience in the publication of academic research and will be happy to advise faculty on the writing and publication of scholarly works.
For our university, faculty and department, the possibility of international exchange in teaching is a significant rating plus and a convincing proof of vectorial development towards global values and qualities in learning and teaching, even in today's challenging setting, which is exactly what attracts students not only from all over Ukraine but from many other countries and continents to our academic family.
The Associate Professor of the Foreign Languages Department completed a postgraduate course at a Norwegian university
Associate Professor of the Foreign Languages Department Iryna Liashenko won a grant for study at the Norwegian University of Oslomet and studied in the spring semester 2022 at the Assessment and Learning course within the PhD Program in Educational Sciences for Teacher Education developed by Oslo Metropolitan University (OsloMet) and the University of South-Eastern Norway (USN) and offered in collaboration with Volda University. Iryna Liashenko studied with other doctors of philosophy - students from other European universities with high professionals and well-known researchers and professors in assessment: Dina Tsagari, Tony Berner, Sigrun Svenkerud, Siv Tereza, Maseidvag Hamlem, Kari Smith. Oslomet is one of the best academic and research school in assessment in Europe and a highly ranked university. The course focused on key aspects of assessment, carefully and uniquely selected from substantive and contemporary perspectives, including the seminal works on which the research was based: Formative Assessment, Assessment of Children and Young People, Assessment of Reading, Assessment of Writing, Assessment and Speaking Skills, Assessment and feedback, Assessment as a pedagogical tool are the main topics, but the discussions went far beyond these topics, enhanced by the study of many other resources, in addition to the endless list that was offered at the beginning of the course.This package of knowledge armed Iryna Liashenko with a solid base of views and an understanding of their practical and scientific significance in work. Moreover, this activity opened access to a new field in the professional circle and many creative ways for further development.In addition to the training sessions, the course program included creative tasks and further discussions, which ultimately led to a scientific examination paper as a summary of the course's learning.
Associate Professor of Foreign Languages SSU took part in joint Ukrainian and Czech project
The second course on the development of academic writing in English which was developed and taught by Associate Professor of Foreign Languages SSU Iryna Liashenko and delivered within the joint Ukrainian and Czech project "AgriSciences Platform for Scientific Enhancement of HEIs in Ukraine" has ended.More than 60 applications applied tfor the course this year from more than 20 universities in Ukraine, but after the selection procedure, half a hundred participants from the consortium's partner universities were invited: Sumy State University, Sumy National Agrarian University, Bila Tserkva National Agrarian University, Kharkiv Biotechnology University and Dnipro State Agrarian and Economic University.
In the course developed on the Canvas platform, the participants learned how to build a research article according to the IMRAD structure, studied key elements of each component of a study, mastered the skills of academic writing and listening through integrated written and listening assignments, polished comprehension of academic texts, practiced multilingual and peer review skills. The outcome of working with the course is to write your own academic article in English according to the requirements of indexed international publishers. The course requires systematic work, but is awarding with the result: now the participants feel more confident in writing and reviewing academic research.
All participants received certificates from the Czech partner-organizer.
For the second year in a row, Iryna Liashenko has been collaborating in this project, helping scientists develop academic writing skills.

Cooperation with European Scientific Organizations is the key to the development of Ukrainian science. Members of such organizations work together, inspire new ideas and help motivate each other. Our teachers Tetiana Plokhuta, Tetiana Aleksakhina, Nataliia Usenko, Oxana Nefedchenko became members of the scientific organization "Center for Ukrainian and European Scientific Cooperation". The main objective of the Centre is to examine the experience of higher education institutions and the subjects of public administration in education and science of the European Union countries, as well as to create a favorable mutual scientific environment of Ukraine and EU countries.

Senior instructor of the Foreign Languages Department, PhD in Philological Sciences Tetiana Aleksakhina received an individual grant for participation in the 18th Annual World Congress on Insulin Resistance, Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease (3-6 December, 2020). Tetiana Aleksakhina was awarded 30 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s).
Senior instructor of the Foreign Languages Department, PhD in Pedagogical Sciences Inna Zaitseva completed her professional development authorized by Goethe-Institute (Germany). The Advanced training course "Projekte im Unterricht" consisted of 3 stages: 1) (27.04 – 26.05.2020); 2) (13.07–24.07.2020; 27.07–30.07.2020); 3) (02.11.20 – 08.11.20). During the internship participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with modern technologies and methods of teaching German.
