Research work of the department involves a variety of activities.

Most teachers are involved into the scientific work  of the second half of the day,  some of them are conducting their individual PhD Researches, prepare students for olympiads in English, German, French, Latin and Medical Terminology, organise an annual scientific and practical conference "To Make the World Smarter and Safer”, have students' scientific clubs. All teachers participate in scientific and practical conferences in Ukraine and abroad. 

In 2023, abstracts of the report "Undifferentiated Connective Tissue Dysplasia: a Modern Perspective on the Issue and Potential Solutions" were published (p. 22 student of the Medical Institute Panasovsky A. gr. Mtsm-203), in the collection of abstracts of the XIV Student Conference "First Step in Science," held on May 24, 2023, in Sumy, Ukraine. The sections included "Current Issues and Prospects for the Development of Modern Medicine" and "Feasibility of Using Pharmacological Neuroprotection in Acute Cerebrovascular Accident" (pp. 62-63, student of the Medical Institute, Roman Chubenko, gr. Mtsm-203). The supervisor is Senior Lecturer of the Department of Foreign Languages and Linguodidactics, Ph.D. Nina  Maliovana.

Student Conference "First Step in Science 2022"

In 2022 the teaching staff of the department published 95 scientific papers, including 6 publications that are indexed in Scopus (4) and WoS (2) databases, 38 articles – 19 were published in Ukrainian specialized journals, 8 in foreign journals, and 2 articles were published with foreign partners. 3 articles were co-authored with students, 2 textbooks, 2 chapters in collective monographs, 7 methodological guidelines, and 47 conference abstracts, 5 of which were published in foreign journals and 24 were co-authored with students.

In 2022, the faculty members of the Department of Foreign Languages and Linguodidactics, including Andreyko L. V., Malovana N. V., Mikhno S. V., Kozachenko Y. S., Plokhuta T. M., Gladchenko O. R., Nefedchenko O. I., Skarlupina Y. V., Otroshchenko L. S., and Lyashenko I. V., prepared abstracts in collaboration with students.

“First Step to Science”

On 18th – 19th March, 2021 the conference “First Step to Science” took place in Sumy State University. The teachers of the Foreign Languages Department N. Maliovana, V. Kurochkina, T. Plokhuta, O. Gladchenko, O. Nefedchenko, S. Mikhno and T. Pochatko prepared 13 students for participation in the conference.
Tasks of the conference:
– Forming interest of students to scientific work
– Preparation of talented young people to further scientific work
– Preparation for taking part in scientific conferences
– Shaping ideas about directions of the scientific work, which is being conducted by the departments of SSU.
Students of the Medical Institute under the scientific supervision of teachers of the Department of Foreign Languages: N. Maliovana (4 students), O. Gladchenko (2 students), O. Nefedchenko (1 student) took part in Section A “Actual Problems and Perspectives of Development of Modern Medicine”. Students presented their scientific reports: Belabdi A., MC.m-005 "Sarc-Cov-2 as a Respiratory Disease that Infects Neurons"; Birin O., MC.m-901 "Brain Fatigue - Death for Human Heart"; Domashenko M. MC.m-901 "How Our Diet Affects Mental Health"; Zozulya I., MC.m-901 "Burnout Syndrome as a Psychological Phenomenon" and Danilishyn I., SM-901 "Insoluble Macromolecules in Root Canal Sealers".
Poster presentations: Ileiko D., MC.m-006 "Placebo-the Best Cure Evermade" and Pluzhnychenko M., MC.m-006 "Medical Deontology".
The second-year student Maryna Domashenko (group MC.m.-901 of the Medical Institute) took the second place with her presentation: "How Our Diet Affects Mental Health". Scientific supervisor: N. Malovana.
Denys Hleba, group IN-02 took the third place in Section “Philology. Communication. Society” with his presentation: "Forming Students’ Independence while Studying Remotely". Scientific supervisor: S. Mikhno
